It seems that people get married for all of the wrong reasons these days. I asked my husband why are people in such a rush to get married, and his response was, "Because it's trendy." It was hard to accept, but it's true. People don't value marriage as much as they used to. People look at it to mean nothing more than a meaningless piece of paper, when in fact, it means so much more. When a couple stands before God and takes their vows, they are pretty much promising that no matter what, They are going to be there for one another. You can't just walk away from the situation. You are now committed to one another.
People try to give out all of this marriage advice. The number one piece of advice that I hear is, "when you get married, make sure that you actually know the person you're marrying." Once I've actually gotten married, I learned that it couldn't be any further from the truth. I have been knowing my husband going on 11 years. We have definitely done a lot of growing together. We decided to get married in our 10th year. You would think we completely know each other by now, but how can we possibly? If we as humans are constantly growing and evolving, then doesn't that mean that we are constantly changing? With this being the case, then how can we ever completely know a person?
I would have to say that my reason for getting married is different from others. I love my husband. He's my best friend. I would honestly say (aside from my Dad) that he knows me more than anyone else in this world. But that doesn't change the fact that I'm constantly evolving. Getting married for me was not about finding the absolute perfect person. It wasn't about finding a person that I could mold into the person I wanted them to be either. It was simply about acknowledging the fact that I'm pretty much going to be evolving for the rest of my life, choosing the person who I wanted to continue my journey with, and growing with that person.
It is unrealistic to think that your marriage will be flawless, because it won't. But the one thing that I can guarantee is that it will teach you lessons that you need to learn in order to successfully continue on your path in life. Although it can be challenging at times, marriage is truly one of the most beautiful things that could have happened in my life.
....and I wouldn't have it any other way. ❤️
